In 2000 the Illustrative Master Plan was the plan that set in motion the contract , signed by the Mayor and the Governor, to commit $150 million to build the park. (This contract with the community is called the Memorandum of Understanding). The following slides provide an overview of this very detailed plan. This is the plan we thought we were getting but sadly bears no relationship to the current park plan. The current park plan with its private housing, private parking, private marina, lack of year-round recreation and lack of planning for access was developed in secret without any community input, from May of 2003 to December of 2004. In sharp contrast, the 2000 Plan reflects 20 years of study, thousands of residents input, and over 70 large scale community meetings. The 2000 Plan contained park features like a pool, ice-skating rink and indoor playing fields which are now gone in the current iteration of the plan. As we gather more documents from this original park plan we will update this section of the website. In particular, we will shortly post the financial plan that made this 2000 Plan "self-sustaining" without the need for housing. |
